Hyde boxing legend Ricky Hatton found dead

HYDE boxing legend Ricky Hatton has been found dead at his home.

The 46-year-old former world champion’s body was discovered by police on the morning of Sunday, September 14.

A cordon is in place at his home on Bowlacre Road in Gee Cross.

And the Greater Manchester force has confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Hatton had announced he would have made a return to the ring, with a fight in Dubai planned for December.

Now the Hyde community, as well as boxing fans around the world, has been left stunned at the tragic news.

Known as The Hitman, Hatton won 45 of his 48 professional bouts and was world champion at light-welterweight and welterweight.

He was named Fighter of the Year in 2015.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told The Correspondent: “Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man.

“There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”


Tributes are starting to pour in following the sad news of the death of boxing star Ricky Hatton.

Amir Khan described Hatton as “one of Britain’s greatest boxers” and spoke of him as a friend, mentor and warrior.

Tyson Fury paid tribute, calling him a legend, saying there will only ever be “one Ricky Hatton”.

Former boxer Spencer Oliver remembered him as a “beautiful human”.

Prominent figures in boxing, including Frank Warren, Frank Bruno, and many others, expressed deep sorrow and admiration for both Hatton’s achievements in the ring and his openness about his struggles outside of it.
