We reported last year that a group of local residents banded together in a bid to buy The Harewood Arms on Market Street in Broadbottom, which was put up for sale as owner Phil Wild wishes to retire.
The Broadbottom Community Pub Group was established by Phil Hesketh, Lesley Wylie, Andrew Taylor and Grenville Lunn, with support from Affie Lockhart.
The team has held a number of fundraising initiatives and received pledges from the community as it looks to keep what it describes as “a vital social focal point” in the village.
Affie, from the committee, told The Correspondent that the campaign is “continuing very well”.
He added: “We still have our monthly quiz, which is now approaching our 13th since we started, and there are still many in-person events that we are attending – including the recent Hyde Mela and the Mottram Show.
“We now have merchandise available which includes t-shirts, pint glasses and beer mats. We are still making incredible progress towards the campaign goal – we have £131,500 in pledges, £22,500 from donations and sales, a loan offer of £150,000 and we are seeking £50,000 in equity investment. That leaves us with around £161,000 left to raise.”
Anyone who wishes to support the campaign can get in touch with the team by emailing communityharewood@gmail.com or sending a message to the ‘Save The Harewood Arms’ Facebook page.
