STAYLEY Cricket Club have been handed a boost ahead of their appearance in the Voneus Village Cup Final at Lord’s on Sunday, September 21, after receiving a £400 donation from Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club.
The Millbrook side, who will take on defending champions Foxton Granta at the home of cricket, welcomed Rotary Club President Graham Fitton this week. He met with volunteers and players to wish them well for their historic trip.
“It was a pleasure to meet the team at Stayley Cricket and to show our support as they represent our community on such a prestigious stage,” said Mr Fitton.
Rotary’s donation will help with the club’s preparations for the final, which is expected to draw a large and passionate crowd.
Stayley have enjoyed a remarkable rise since first entering the competition in 2021, progressing through the Cheshire & Clwyd group to earn their place at Lord’s. Facing Foxton Granta, one of the most successful village sides in recent years, promises to be a memorable occasion.
Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club, part of a global service organisation, focuses its efforts locally by supporting initiatives, charities and community groups across Tameside. The club said it was proud to back Stayley Cricket and wished them the best of luck in the final.
