New Hyde hub offers safe space for women to talk menopause

WOMEN in Tameside now have a safe and welcoming space to talk openly about menopause.

A new Menopause Movement Hub has been launched at The Grafton Centre in Hyde.

It was officially launched last Saturday (August 16) by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Shibley Alam – who represents Hyde Werneth on Tameside Council.

The hub has been founded by Kerrie Clark-Bear and Councillor Andrea Colbourne – who serves the Hyde Godley ward on the local authority.

It aims to break the long-standing taboo around menopause and provide practical support for women at every stage of the transition.

Menopause is when a woman’s periods stop due to lower hormone levels. It usually affects women between the ages of 45 and 55, but it can happen earlier.

Menopause Your Way will meet every third Saturday of the month at the centre on Grafton Street from 10am to midday, bringing women together to share experiences, advice and camaraderie.

Partners and husbands are also welcome, with male volunteers on hand to offer guidance and support.

Designed to be inclusive and accessible, workshops focus on mindfulness, light exercise, sleep, nutrition, and other tools to help women manage stress, boost energy, and rebuild confidence. For those unable to attend in person, sessions are also available online.

The hub is free to attend and is one of the first of its kind in the borough, with hopes it can be expanded further.

“At its heart, the hub is about connection,” said Cllr Colbourne. “It’s a safe, welcoming place where women can talk openly about menopause without fear of stigma or shame.

“Whether you’re curious about the changes in your body, looking for advice on nutrition and ‘mood food’, or simply craving the comfort of someone who understands, there’s a place for you here.

“The dream is to grow this network even further – to reach more women, build confidence for face-to-face meetups, and work alongside other care providers to make menopause support part of everyday healthcare.

“For many, the hub is more than just a support group. It’s a lifeline. It gives back a sense of control, helps us rediscover our strength, and inspires us to help others along the way.”
