A MOSSLEY girl who died in an incident that has resulted in a ‘rape and murder’ investigation suffered four cardiac arrests, a coroner has heard.
Casey-Louise Horrocks was found unresponsive at a flat on Sheepridge Road in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, late on Monday, August 11.
Bradford Coroner’s Court heard the 13-year-old was taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax, where she died at 2.18am on Tuesday, August 12.
Coroner’s officer Victoria Normington said on Tuesday, August 26: “Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called to a house in Huddersfield regarding an unresponsive teenager.
“CRT was commenced and Casey was admitted to the Calderdale Royal Hospital where she was initially unresponsive and unconscious.

“She was taken for scans and CPR was commenced as she then suffered four cardiac arrests. She was sadly pronounced dead life extinct at 2.18am on August 12.”
A 16-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of her rape and murder has been released on bail.
The court heard a post-mortem had taken place but failed to establish a formal cause of Casey-Louise’s death.
Assistant coroner Peter Merchant adjourned the inquest until February 26, 2026, while West Yorkshire Police’s homicide team investigates Casey-Louise’s death.
Mossley Hollins High School paid tribute, saying: “We are deeply saddened to acknowledge the tragic death of Casey-Louise, who was a pupil at Mossley Hollins.
“This heartbreaking news has deeply affected our community and as we come to terms with this loss, our thoughts are with Casey-Louise’s family, loved ones and all those impacted at this incredibly difficult time
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Casey-Louise, a one-of-a-kind young person who brought spirit and warmth wherever she went.
“Casey was bright, full of character, always full of life, and never afraid to be herself. Those lucky enough to know her saw what a big heart she had.
“She was funny, sweet, had a smile that could brighten anyone’s day and will be deeply missed by our school community.”
Casey-Louise’s heartbroken family has paid a tribute of its own, saying: “Goodnight princess. I love you and miss you lots. Forever 13.
“Suddenly and totally unexpected, on Tuesday 12th August our beautiful Casey-Louise gained her angel wings.
“Our family is absolutely devastated by this news.”
Tameside Council, which was Casey-Louise’s ‘corporate parent’, has announced a safeguarding review will take place.
An online appeal to raise funds for her funeral has seen more than £3,000 donated
