Police issue warning after rise in Ford Fiesta thefts

POLICE have reported an increase in thefts of Ford Fiesta vehicles across Tameside recently.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Tameside team are urging owners of these cars in particular to review their security.

They have issued advice to residents in a bid to deter thieves from stealing their vehicle.

The force is also warning people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

A spokesperson for GMP Tameside said: “It is recommended to have layered security – use a steering or disc lock, a faraday pouch/box for your keyless fob, consider installing a tracker system or ghost alarm, or an immobiliser (if not already factory fitted).

“Always remove your valuable belongings. It could be the difference between your vehicle being targeted or not.

“Ford Fiestas can be stolen without a key, making it considerably easier than many other cars on the market. It’s advised to take extra steps to keep your vehicle safe from criminals and theft.

“Be vigilant to anyone acting suspiciously around homes and vehicles, and report any suspicious activity to the police, or any concerns on either 101 (non-emergency), 999 (emergency) or via the GMP live chat (non-emergency).”
