Volunteers and sponsors needed as excitement builds for Mottram Show 2025

EXCITEMENT is building and preparations are being finalised for this year’s Mottram Show.

Organisers the Mottram and District Agricultural Society are still looking for sponsors and volunteers to support the event on Sunday, August 17.

Claire Dunkerley, the Society’s Secretary, told the Correspondent: “We need more people to help out on the day, particularly with parking.

“Even if you’re free for just a couple of hours and not the whole day, that would be a huge help – or volunteer in the morning and then enjoy the show in the afternoon, for example.

“We are also in need of more sponsors. We have bronze, silver and gold packages, or you can sponsor a dog, horse, sheep or cattle class, or you can pay to have your banner displayed on the showground.”

One of the oldest agricultural shows in the country, the event – at the showground at the junction of Apple Street and Mottram Old Road – will start at 9am and end at around 4pm.

There will be everything from Valais Blacknose sheep, pygmy goats and poultry to vintage vehicles, cookery, and horticulture.

Visitors will also be able to browse a range of food, trade and community stalls – so there’s plenty to keep all the family entertained and refreshed.

There is also an exciting new addition for this year’s show – which is ideal for those who have dreamed of owning their own pony.

“We’ve got the big attraction of Hobby Horses Adventures coming, which will be fantastic,” said Claire.

“We’re giving it a go this year and we’re grateful for them taking time out of their busy schedule to show everyone this fun sport. It’s open to all and will be in the main ring.

“We will be running ‘have a go’ sessions to take part over the fences and there will be a Chase me Charlie and a Grand National for the more competitive. There will be two sessions at 10.30am and 1.30pm – Hobby Horses will be provided for those who don’t have their own.”

The Society has been busy preparing the showground for the event and continues to invest in improving and maintaining the land.

“We spent quite a lot of money on drainage for the ground and extending the track,” explained Claire.

“We’re always looking to improve and we’ve got a long-term plan for how we can keep improving the ground.

“We’re excited for this year’s show. Last year was the first one that opened to the public at the new location so it was a bit of a trial run. We hope as many people as possible come along and have a great day out.”

As well as holding the Mottram Show, the Society is also hopeful of putting on a Spring Show in May next year – so watch this space for more details.
