STALYBRIDGE’S iconic railway station buffet bar is officially one of the country’s best pubs after being named in the top 500.
The venue, which sits on the platform at the Rassbottom Street facility, has long been loved by many.
Now it can take its place among the UK’s finest after making The Telegraph’s list.

News of the Buffet Bar’s inclusion was warmly greeted by owners Beerhouses, which has five venues along the trans-Penning rail line.
And judges for The Telegraph were in no doubt about what they found, writing: “High-class station pubs are relatively common across the North and Midlands now, most of them based in revitalised and repurposed station buildings.
“None of the others, though, is quite like the Stalybridge Station Buffet Bar, which is both authentically Victorian and has a genuine pub flavour.
“Expanded in 1996, it consists of the original Victorian Buffet Bar, complete with marble-topped counter, and two additional rooms, decorated with historic railway signage.
“Needless to say, the beer here is invariably excellent.”
