A HYDE store wants to introduce a launderette into its current floorspace.
Tamim Jan, of Australian Wines on Talbot Road in Newton, has applied to Tameside Council to separate the area and place 10 machines, plus a toilet and storage space, in it.
And documents supporting the scheme believe giving it the go ahead can boost both its value to the community and interaction between those who live in it.

They state: “Rooted in the local community, the applicant aims to provide an affordable washing and drying facility that employs local people and provide a space for people to meet and interact.
“The brief has been informed by extensive research, and engagement with locals.
“The applicant recognises that launderettes may not generally be considered a growth industry, as many people have machines at home.
“However, their research suggests there it’s still a considerable need within the community for accessible and affordable washing and drying facilities.”
Mr Jan is also looking add six parking spaces at the front of the shop and launderette, but documents add: “The proposals will have a negligible effect on the original features of the property.”
Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel (Planning) committee will decide whether to grant or refuse permission.
