Community connection shines at Dukinfield care home

A DUKINFIELD care home opened its doors to the local community for a weekend of fun-filled activities.

Fir Trees on Gorse Hall Road welcomed visitors as part of its celebrations for this year’s Care Home Open Week.

The highlight of the week was Care Home Open Weekend, from Friday, June 20, to Sunday, June 22, when residents, staff, friends, family and neighbours enjoyed a range of events including a vibrant garden party and a traditional afternoon tea.

Hosted by volunteer-led group Championing Social Care, the national initiative aims to strengthen connections between care homes and their communities.

Fir Trees is run by adult social care provider HC-One, whose theme for this year was ‘The Big Summer Weekender’.

There was a nostalgic British summer holiday feel to the home with themed decorations and activities throughout the week.

Local singer Shaun delighted everyone with classic tunes during a musical afternoon, as staff and residents danced and sang along together.

“Care Home Open Week is such an important opportunity for us to connect with our wonderful local community,” said the care home’s manager, Nicole Gunning.

“It was fantastic to see so many residents, relatives, colleagues and visitors enjoying the celebrations, and to be able to showcase the exceptional care and facilities we provide here at Fir Trees. We were delighted to open our doors and welcome everyone in.”

Katie Hey, Wellbeing Coordinator at Fir Trees, added: “It is so lovely to see residents enjoying time with their families and colleagues all coming together to ensure our residents have a good time!”
