MORE public information events are being held for local residents to find out more about the next phase of the A57 Link Roads in Tameside.
The long-awaited project that was first mooted over 60 years ago is finally under way after failed legal challenges enabled the green light to be given last year.
A ceremony that took place in May saw ground broken at the site close to the M67 roundabout, attended by politicians including Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds, who spoke about how the new roads would change the area for the better.
National Highways and its partners Balfour Beatty will be on hand at the forthcoming events to provide an update and answer any questions about the project.
The first event is taking place on Tuesday, July 15, from 2pm to 7pm at Hattersley Hub on Stockport Road.
The following Tuesday (July 22) between the same times, they will be in the community room at St Mary’s Church on Market Street in Hollingworth.
That’s followed by a Saturday event on August 2 from 10am to 2pm at Stalybridge Celtic Football Club off Mottram Road.
People can just turn up to any of the events at any time during the slots – there is no need to book in advance.
Costing around £228 million, the project – which is due to be complete by 2028 – will see a dual carriageway run from the end of the M67 through a new underpass to the north of Mottram to the A57 east of the junction at Back Moor.
Another single carriageway road will also link the A57 from Mottram Moor to Woolley Bridge, taking traffic away from the current route along Woolley Lane in Hollingworth.
Two new junctions – Mottram Moor Junction and Woolley Bridge Junction – will be created, along with improvement works on the existing M67 junction four.
Five new structures will also be created – these are Old Farm Underpass, Roe Cross Road Overbridge, Mottram Underpass, Carrhouse Lane Underpass and River Etherow Bridge.
