Denton MP vows repeated opposition to industrial estate plans on doorstep

DENTON’S MP believes giving the go ahead to extend an industrial estate on its doorstep would have dire consequences.

New attempts are being made to build on land adjacent to the existing Bredbury Parkway industrial estate in Stockport.

Three years ago, plans to develop this site were rejected, a decision upheld by the Planning Inspectorate following an appeal.

Bredbury Park Industrial Estate Plans

Strong concerns were expressed that building on this site would completely destroy the openness, ambience and coherence of the Tame River valley at this location.

Now as consultation is being held ahead of the submission of the latest proposals, Andrew Gwynne has warned those behind them to expect a battle.

He said: “I am deeply concerned that plans are being put forward again to build on green belt land at Bredbury Parkway.

“The previous application for a similar development was quite rightly rejected due to the irreparable damage that it would have caused to the river valley, hugely increased the volume of traffic through Denton and have a negative impact on local air quality.

“I have yet to see the detailed proposals for this site, but the Tame Valley is precious and any encroachment on to green belt land will be strongly resisted.”
