AN ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE superstore has given a bear essential to people going through tough times, thanks to a generous donation.
IKEA has handed over 120 of its Fabler Bjorn teddies to Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Trust.
And each will be used as a source of comfort, particularly for those who have lost a loved one.
For they can be included in ‘memory boxes’ for bereaved families, giving children a special object to remember their loved one by.
“We really appreciate IKEA’s support for this fantastic local cause on top of their existing national charity commitments,” said Emily Whelan, the trust’s charity manager.
“This generous donation will help support families, especially children, in our community during some of the most difficult moments they will face.”
Jo Moody, from the hospital’s palliative care team, added “Losing a loved one is never easy. We know that families can find our memory boxes to be an incredibly meaningful source of support.
“We hope that the addition of these cuddly bears will help bring comfort to children experiencing a bereavement.
“Thank you to IKEA for supporting our SWAN model of care, promoting dignity, respect and compassion at the end of life.”
A representative from IKEA Manchester said: “IKEA Manchester are really happy that we could support such a heartwarming cause, especially as Tameside Hospital is local to our store and our community and will bring some comfort to children suffering from bereavement.”
