A GROUP of football fans has scored big after a charity trek raised more than double its original target for a community defibrillator.
The Stalybridge Celtic Supporters Association put its best foot forward as members took on the town’s Three Peaks.
And after setting an initial target of £1,000, it has raised more than £2,300 – and counting.

In the inaugural challenge, the 11-mile circular walk on Saturday, April 26 saw fans scale Hough Hill, Wild Bank and Harridge Pike.
And after setting off from Celtic’s Bower Fold stadium, the fans returned in time for their team’s home clash against City of Liverpool, which their side won 2-0.
The initiative was the latest in a string of fundraising efforts by the club and its supporters, who have been working hard to bring a defibrillator to the area outside the stadium – a move that could one day prove lifesaving.
Earlier in the year, the association hosted a Stalybridge-themed quiz night, which saw enthusiastic locals come together to test their town knowledge all in aid of the cause.
Alasdair Brown, of the association, commented: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community so far.
“The Three Peaks was a tough challenge, but it was for an incredibly worthwhile cause that could help save lives right here in Stalybridge.”
