Pre-loved sports gear powers new charity shop drive

A CHARITY which has local shops is calling on folk to pop by to pick up their sports gear in a bid to encourage people to get active.

Age UK, which has shops in Stalybridge and Ashton-under-Lyne, has launched a new campaign called ‘Act Now, Age Better’.

According to research by the charity dedicated to helping older people, 6.6 million adults – around 47 per cent – say they feel they don’t do enough or any physical activity.

Age UK’s campaign highlights how becoming more physically active can lead to a happier, healthier, more independent later life.

The charity says its shops offer a range of pre-loved items including sportswear, fitness DVDs, books and accessories to aid a journey to moving more at affordable prices.

Money raised from the shops goes towards the charity’s services – including the telephone friendship service, the free and confidential Advice Line, and The Silver Line helpline.

“From essentials like trainers to comfortable workout clothing, the Age UK shop in Ashton-under-Lyne has a range of items that can help people create stylish and functional fitness wardrobes,” said a charity spokesperson.

“Not only will you be saving money and reducing waste, you’ll be helping raise vital funds for Age UK so that it can continue supporting older people across the country.”

The Age UK shops in Stalybridge and Ashton-under-Lyne are also looking for donations of any unwanted quality sports and fitness gear, as well as spring and summer clothing.
