THE sun was beaming down as eight steel beams were lifted into place, during the latest phase of works to replace a motorway bridge in Denton.
National Highways have released some aerial images which capture the moment each pair of braced steel beams were craned into position.

Each pair of beams weighed up to 65 tonnes and they will support the new bridge deck, on which vehicles run.
It was the final planned full weekend closure of the M67 as it closed to vehicles in both directions between Junction 1a at Denton and Junction 3 at Hyde, from Friday evening to Monday morning.
The next phase of the project will involve building the bridge deck itself.
“The work went very well and according to plan, with each pair of beams lifted successfully and safely into place,” said Mangat Bansal, National Highways Programme Delivery Manager.
“We had to close the motorway to enable this latest phase in our project and thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we continue with our work to rebuild the bridge.”
The ageing St Anne’s Road bridge, which crosses the busy M67 motorway in Denton, is currently being replaced due to long-term safety concerns.
The £23 million project, led by National Highways, started in January 2023 and is expected to take three years.
The government company responsible for the country’s motorways and main A roads has been working with partners Tilbury Douglas to deliver the bridge.
