PLANS to convert a Hyde restaurant into a McDonalds drive-thru have been put on hold.
The fast food giant has targeted the Viceroy, on Grafton Street, for development.
But proposals submitted to Tameside Council have now been withdrawn.
McDonalds said of their scheme: “The multi-million-pound investment would transform the site, and create around 120 new, local jobs, with market-leading career progression opportunities.
“The restaurant would generate thousands of pounds in business rates annually, payable to Tameside Council.
“Our high-quality, sustainable and modern restaurant would transform the site and enhance local food choices.”
However, it now appears the firm has had a rethink and will no longer been converting the Viceroy any time soon.
Reasons for the plans being taken off the table have not been revealed and it leaves a site that is part of Hyde’s masterplan facing an uncertain future.
