McDonald’s looks to open new restaurant in Hyde

MCDONALD’S hopes to have Hyde lovin’ it with the opening of a new restaurant.

The fast food giant has targeted the site of the Viceroy, on Grafton Street, for development.

Owners of businesses and people living in the area are receiving a newsletter as a public consultation has been launched, running until Monday, September 2, seeking the views of the community.

McDonalds say: “The multi-million-pound investment would transform the site, and create around 120 new, local jobs, with market-leading career progression opportunities.

“The restaurant would generate thousands of pounds in business rates annually, payable to Tameside Council.

“Our high-quality, sustainable and modern restaurant would transform the site and enhance local food choices.”

And an online portal has been developed, with the firm adding: “The views of residents and nearby businesses will help inform how McDonald’s progress plans.”

Oliver Rebeiro, Senior Acquisition Surveyor at McDonald’s, said: “We’re excited to share our plans for a new McDonald’s restaurant with the Hyde community.

“This development would deliver over 120 new, local jobs, and represent a multi-million-pound investment into the local economy.

“The site, located off Grafton Street, is ideally placed to serve the town of Hyde.

“We’re confident that residents and local businesses will recognise the value of a new McDonald’s.

“We’re looking forward to working closely with the community and receiving feedback on our plans.

“We’d like to encourage everyone interested to go to our consultation portal and make their views known.”

  1. I am writing to you today with the deepest concerns over the proposed new 24 hour McDonald’s outlet on Tanner Street, Garston Street in Hyde. I honestly think that this will bring noise pollution to the area along with much more traffic. Also it will have a large increase in litter to the area, as we all know fast food outlets create a litter problem, nomatter how many litter bins are provided. There is also the problem of this being a 24 hour opening outlet which attracts young drivers, which ofcourse will be doing “donuts” on the Grafton Street car park.
I therefore would very strongly recommend that this outlet does not get planning permission.

  2. will be sorry to see viceroy close,
but progress is progress and fast food outlets bring in people to the area so could help with bringing back shoppers to hyde.
ideal area tucked out the way among businesses and 5 minute walk from the park for families and on the motorway exit.

bring it on. but i do admit i dont eat mcds myself. but my kids will

  3. Literally a few days ago I was joking saying knock the town hall down and build a maccys, seems they thought I was serious. The problem I see is the fact that surrounding every maccys is always loads and loads of rubbish because the sort of folks who go maccys are often the sort who chuck their wrappers out the car window.. Example, hattersley. I’d ask, what does Hyde need? Does it really need another expensive, unhealthy profiteering business like this ? Answers on a postcard.

  4. Dont need another Mc donalds. Litter problems, Traffic problems. Leave the Viceroy Alone Big bullies.

  5. We got McDonald mile away either side dentòn and hatersley ..we don’t want another McDonald plus now uber deliver can get McDonald’s from anywhere .. plus it’s gona make traffic bad I. The area and Rubish
    No thanks to fast food

  6. I am really disappointed and the fact your not taking us publics concern any importance. As been mentioned we already have McDonald near by and we don’t need another. First thing is it’s unhealthy and I do not want another unhealthy place near by. Other concern is traffic and the pollution. I will be very sad seeing viceroy to go as they have been there for a long time and serving us publics and helping towards charities.
I totally disagree towards this and hope this is looked into!

  7. We don’t want more junk food places , it’s just killing off small eating places as they can’t compete with big brands .. it’s like since Asda came in small businesses in hyde dies off now big eating places coming in it’s gona kill off small food places who support them sepves

  8. Will not have any more eating places left in hyde .. it’s gona be McDonald’s or kfc every night for rest of my life lol
