Tameside business bounces back after devastating fire – and gives back to community

A TAMESIDE business which suffered catastrophic losses in a fire that destroyed its production facilities has celebrated bouncing back in 12 months.

Visual Architects – which specialises in creating events and experiences, including prop building and set design – was left wondering what to do next when a blaze tore through its base on Meadow Street in Hyde.

But it has done more than just recover. It has blossomed after taking the decision to relocate to a state-of-the-art facility in Denton, with advanced technology and sustainable production methods.

And its achievement was toasted with an open house event that saw Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds, the country’s Business Secretary, heap praise on to it.

He said: “Visual Architects has risen like a phoenix from the flames, proving that creativity, innovation, and determination can turn adversity into opportunity.

“The business is now stronger than ever and stands as a shining example of British entrepreneurship.”

As well as hearing from Mr Reynolds, the event – described as a ‘celebration, gratitude and a commitment to giving back to the community that stood by them’ – featured inspiring talks from team members, partners, and industry supporters.

Since the devastating events of January 22 last year, Visual Architects has not just moved premises, after temporarily using offices at Hyde Town Hall.

By May, the company relocated to a larger, more efficient facility on King Street, Denton, which is equipped with cutting-edge laser cutting, printing, and recycling technology.

It has launched a new fund to help the local community build and rebuild through free courses, bursaries and sponsorships.

More than 330 projects were completed globally in 2024, including for clients such as Kendal Calling, Creamfields, Jet2, and Fujifilm.

And it was recognised with multiple industry awards, including the ‘Special Recognition Award’ at the Pride of Tameside Business Awards 2024.

It has also grown its team, hiring 24 new recruits in 2024, bringing the total workforce to 63.

“At the end of last January, we found ourselves in a situation I would not wish upon our worst enemies. Many thought we were done,” said Lefteris Angelidis, founder and chief executive of Visual Architects.

“But 2024 has been a journey of resilience, requiring quick decisions and steadfast determination.

“Through the unwavering dedication of our team, loyalty from our customers, and trust from stakeholders, we have not only rebuilt but advanced the company by two years, paving the way for a bigger, brighter future.”

Visual Architects has announced a new initiative for 2025 to support community development.

This programme will offer opportunities such as free training courses, bursaries, and sponsorships to help residents and businesses develop skills and create new opportunities.

“This initiative is a way for us to thank the community for its unwavering support during our most challenging times,” added Mr Angelidis.

“Our goal is to help others rebuild and grow, fostering resilience and opportunity for all.”
