GGC MEDIA believes an increase in readership figures shows quality local journalism still has a place in an ever-changing landscape.
Publishers of The Correspondent in Tameside and Saddleworth Independent, the company can report more people read what it produced.
Independent statistics showed a combined 2.4 million people came through both websites in 2024.
Content was viewed on average by a combined six million per month and there was an increase of at least 20 per cent for likes of both titles’ Facebook pages.
With coverage of events including the aftermath of the tornado that tore through Tameside, huge changes at its council, the multi-billion pound rail scheme passing through, Kevin Sinfield’s fundraising efforts and elections at parish, local and national level, GGC Media says it ‘led the way.’
But community news is as important to the firm as what goes on in the corridors of power – people as much as politics.
And GGC Media – operated by Gemma and Gary Carter – says it is not stopping in 2025. Its Shaw, Crompton and Royton Correspondent title has seen a relaunch of its website and social media pages.
2024 also saw the creation of its TikTok channel (@ggc_media) and we continue to share video content to its YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@ggcmedialtd).
Gary Carter, of GGC Media, said:
“Independent news titles remain the heartbeat of local communities, preserving the voices, stories and accountability that keep our readers informed and connected.
“People want quality local news – without clickbait or sensationalism.
“We believe we have provided that and the increase in readership and popularity is testament to that.
“We may be a small team, but our dedication, vision and hard work have created a big impact, showing that greatness is measured by results, not size.”
