VOLUNTEERS who help to keep facilities running at a popular Ashton-under-Lyne park got together to celebrate their hard work and enjoy the festivities.
The Friends of King George the Fifth Playing Fields enjoyed a Christmas party thanks to grant funding from Forever Manchester.
The friends’ group was successful in applying for £125 from the charity – that raises money to fund and support community activity across Greater Manchester.
The party at the Georgie Porgies cafe in the park was to thank volunteers in many teams.
After a quick management meeting, they moved on to having festive fun as Alan Fish, Chair of the friends’ group, thanked Forever Manchester for their Connecting Communities grant and all the members for all their work.
The Horticultural team look after plants and the apple orchard, litter pickers from the Rubbish Pool Club, the Bee Squad who look after the bees and make honey, Georgie Porgies cafe and other jobs including Tameside Women’s Community Cycling Group teaching people to learn to ride and bike maintenance in the park.
As we reported recently, the cafe is closed until the new year due to a shortage of volunteers. Anyone who would like to help can email Alan at chair@fokgvpf.co.uk or call 07931 765 120.
