TAMESIDE has taken a significant step within Greater Manchester’s 14-year journey to becoming a carbon-neutral region by 2038.
More than 70 guests participated in the Tameside Net Zero Festival where the council’s economy, employment and skills team brought together a wide range of stakeholders at The Vale, home of Mossley arts organisation Global Grooves.
Industries and businesses showcased their green projects and what they are doing to reduce their carbon footprint, there was advice from green experts, and members of Tameside Youth Council offered a young person’s perspective on the need to slash carbon emissions across the borough.
Among the organisations taking part were GM Business Growth Hub’s Green Economy Team, Enerlytic, the Carbon Literacy Project, Carbon Energy and Reduction Solutions, Project Solar UK, Mosodi, Gwafuvegan, Manchester Bikes and MIC media.
The festival was sponsored by Dukinfield-based MBH Global, which provides data security, asset recovery and shredding services – keeping data safe while preserving the planet.
Cllr Laura Boyle, Tameside Council’s executive member for environmental services and neighbourhoods, said: “The net zero festival was a highly important event, recognised by the Greater Manchester Green Summit 2024, so I am delighted it was such a success.
“I applaud businesses and industries across the borough for the efforts they are making. The council will do what it can to help them achieve even more.
“It was good to see Tameside coming together to drastically reduce its emissions. We need to play our full part in helping the Greater Manchester city region meet its target of being net zero by 2038.
“I was pleased to see such a wide range of organisations playing their part, but especially Tameside Youth Council who provided the voice of the young. Unless we do what is necessary to protect the Earth, it is the young who will suffer the full consequences of our inaction.”
