WITH the festive period potentially generating additional waste, it’s important to know when to put your bins out.
In Tameside, the council has revealed its plans for bin collections over Christmas and New Year.
The first significant point to note is that there will be no brown bin collections from December 25 to January 7.
There will be no collections at all on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, and collections will return to normal from Wednesday, January 8.
Residents are being reminded they can now recycle a wider range of plastic items in their mixed recycling bin – such as the likes of pots, tubs and trays – following a recent major change.
The council says its refuse collection teams will collect any additional recyclable waste which is left out with a blue or black recycling bin in a clear or labelled bag over the festive period.
The bin app has been updated with 2025 collection dates and changes to the Christmas waste and recycling collection arrangements.

Monday, December 23, and Tuesday, December 24
Normal collections.
Wednesday, December 25
No collections. For those due a green (general waste) bin collection on this day, it will be collected on Friday, December 27. If you are due a black (comingled recycling waste) or a blue (paper recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Tuesday, December 31.
Thursday, December 26
No collections. If you are due a green (general waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Monday, December 30. If you are due a black (comingled recycling waste) or a blue (paper recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Thursday, January 2.
Friday, December 27
Friday collections as normal, except no brown bin collection.
Monday, December 30
Monday collections as normal, except no brown bin collection.
Tuesday, December 31
Tuesday collections as normal, except no brown bin collection.
Wednesday, January 1, 2025
No collections. If you are due a green (general waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Friday, January 3. If you are due a black (comingled recycling waste) or a blue (paper recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Monday, January 6.
Thursday, January 2
Thursday collections as normal, except no brown bin collection.
Friday, January 3
