Community football club nets timely funding boost

A COMMUNITY football club in Droylsden has scored a lottery win that means a great deal.

Northside FC is the beneficiary of a timely funding boost, courtesy of proceeds raised by members of Manchester Credit Union.

The volunteer-run club – which has been in existence for more than 30 years – currently provides footballing opportunities for around 70 junior players.

It has received a donation of £1,562 through the credit union’s Busy Bee Lottery – which combines the chance to support local good causes with winning a monthly cash prize.

The funds will be used to help the club maintain its clubhouse and pitches, used by young players and the wider community.

“Northside FC wishes to say thanks to Manchester Credit Union and its Busy Bee Lottery scheme for its generous donation,” said Blake Boardman from the club.

“These funds will go a long way to help with the club’s continuously increasing operating costs and will fund a much-needed lawn mower to keep our pitches in a usable condition throughout the season.

“Importantly, they will also help us to bolster the sense of goodwill and pride that we aim to foster in our local community.”

Manchester Credit Union – which says it “helps people free themselves from a cycle of costly and stress-inducing debt” – is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial co-operative which serves members across Greater Manchester, including in Tameside.

Through the lottery, more than £16,000 has been donated to local charities and community groups in Greater Manchester so far this year.

Mandy Wilcock, Manchester Credit Union’s chief executive, said: “As well as supporting people through the cost-of-living crisis and helping them to improve their financial futures, we want to do what we can to boost the many excellent community organisations in the Greater Manchester region.

“We are delighted to be able to support the valuable work of Northside FC. And we’d like to thank our members, whose generosity has made this possible.”
