Pub toilets loo-king good after award recognition

TWO pubs in Tameside have proved they are ‘toilet-ally the best’ after being recognised in this year’s Loo of the Year Awards.

The establishments in Stalybridge and Ashton-under-Lyne are more than just ‘bog standard’ after flushing away the competition for the quality and standards of their toilets.

The Society Rooms in Grosvenor Street has been awarded a platinum plus grading by inspectors, who also gave a platinum grading to The Ash Tree on Wellington Road.

The annual awards aim to highlight and improve standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provision across the UK.

Inspectors make unannounced visits to thousands of toilets in order to judge them based on numerous criteria – from cleanliness and accessibility to hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

Toilets are graded bronze, silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond – while unacceptable toilets are not graded at all!

“We are delighted with the grading,” said Liza Braddock, manager of The Society Rooms.

“Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

Becky Wall, Loo of the Year Awards managing director, commented: “The toilets at the two pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pubs deserve their awards.”
