New Tameside Council panel heads appointed

PANEL heads who will lead the way in making sure Tameside Council operates to the best of its ability have been named.

New executive leader Cllr Eleanor Wills’ administration is taking shape after a whirlwind period.

And those who will take charge of scrutiny panels, which monitor and conduct much of the authority’s business are now in place.

Dukinfield Town Hall.

However, it is believed they were appointed by the national Labour Party’s campaign improvement board after being interviewed rather than being nominated.

At a meeting of Tameside Labour Group on Monday, October 28, Cllr Allison Gwynne was named in the role of leading the overview and audit panel.

The key place and external relations scrutiny panel will be led by Cllr Dave Sweeton, with Cllr Christine Beardmore as his deputy.

Another major role, chair of the health and adult social care scrutiny panel, went to Cllr Charlotte Martin. However, no deputy was named.

Cllr Sangita Patel will head up the Speaker’s Panel (Licensing) committee, with Cllr Denise Ward doing so for liquor licensing.

Cllr Adrian Pearce was also confirmed as keeping his role in charge of the east strategic neighbourhood forum.

The Correspondent understands Cllr Brenda Warrington will retain her role as head of the children’s services scrutiny panel, which she took on days before the resignation of now former leader Cllr Ged Cooney.

Tameside Council will meet on Tuesday, October 29, where it is expected Harry Catherall will be named as interim chief executive, a position he also holds at neighbouring Oldham.

According to documents, the recommendation is for him to do it four days per week as part of the wider Greater Manchester package of support while a permanent appointment is sought.

If he is appointed, he would also become the borough’s returning offer and electoral registration officer.

  1. MP Andrew Gywnne should hold his head in shame that Cllr Allison Gywnne and Cllr Brenda Warrington are included which was what this has all been about and nothing to do with children services

It shows what the Labour Party has become and why having supported it all my life have lost all confidence that it is fit to lead

Only thing that’s makes me smile is that he has been unable to match the Reynolds new income stream that has been announced this week in The Correspondence on Claire Reynolds position for maintaining good relations at Westminster.

Do you think they are considering Mike Amesbury MP for Runcorn and Helsby presently suspended for the free position of assistant to health and adult social care scrutiny panel ? He is a former member of the club.

Tameside is now run by our 3MPs under the guise of Westminster ,please remember this at the next local elections.

  2. 100% agree, if it’s broken don’t bother fixing it, same old, nowt changes in Tameside’s Ivory Towers

  3. Thought Cllr Alison Gwynne had left the Council years ago ,never see her at the monthly or Christmas Denton Luncheon club dinners which Cllr Ward and Ricci have been running for over 14 years

Can only think voluntary work doesn’t appeal for some reason

  4. With regard to Reynolds v Gywnne income competition in fairness it should be remembered that the Gywnnes start £130000 ahead in 2024 of taxpayer’s money with a new brick wall on their house which MP Gwynne claims to have had little knowledge about.

Maybe he thought this is what Labour mean’s about building strong foundations for the economic stability of the Country .

How many more Hospital Appointments ,help in stopping pensioners freezing to death or kids in poverty could have been reduced for this £130,000 of Taxpayers money plus literally hundreds of thousands more wasted on Tameside Cabinet of Councillors who are creating Chaos.
