THE WIFE of a Tameside MP has landed a high-powered job at the heart of government.
Claire Reynolds, whose husband Jonathan represents Stalybridge and Hyde, is the new political director in Downing Street.
Now she has the job of liaising with the Labour Party’s 403 MPs as the new regime at parliament gets to grips with its job – and the inevitable criticism.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer appointed Mrs Reynolds, a familiar figure at events like Stalybridge’s Street Fest, after she was credited with helping get 100 new female MPs elected as director of Labour Women’s Network.
She also served on Tameside Council in the Dukinfield/Stalybridge ward, for which she was elected in 2012, and has also been a European election candidate, a chair of school governors and the national secretary of Labour Students.
A former aide to previous leaders Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, she will be in charge of maintaining good relations across the parliamentary party.
But those may be tested around Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ budget on Wednesday, October 30.

Sure the pensioners who some will really struggle with the loss of their heating allowance will fully understand the importance of maintaining good relations between Labour’s 403 MP’s on 91 thousand pounds minimum plus massive expenses as a real pressing priority to fund from taxpayers money.
