Objections raised to Stalybridge HMO scheme

DOZENS of people have objected to a proposal to convert a flat at a prominent Stalybridge building into a house in multiple occupation (HMO).

Rob Theaker, of RN Theaker Properties – which is based in the Marple Bridge area of Stockport, has applied to Tameside Council to turn the property on French Street into accommodation for six people.

But already, 25 objections to the scheme, which lies close to the site of the Stocks Inn – which will be turned into accommodation for eight people – have been received.

Documents supporting the proposal say the ground floor commercial premises, known locally as Hewitts Refrigeration, had prior approval granted for conversion to two flats by Tameside Council on July 4.

As it did not include the two-story accommodation above it, it has not been commenced.

But they state about this site: “It is further established that the existing lawful use of the property is a C3 dwellinghouse.

“This is confirmed by a council tax record and evidence of this has been submitted as part of the application.

“Schedule 2, Part 3, Class L of the General Permitted Development allows for the conversion of a dwellinghouse (use class C3) to a small HMO (use class C4).”

Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel (Planning) committee will decide whether to grant or refuse planning permission.

  1. Don’t turn stalybridge in to ashton. Full of hmo buildings and the trouble they bring with them. Check round ashton town centre rubbish dumped, anti social behaviour.

  2. There’s 2 HMO on Stamford Street next door but 1 to each other . We walk past that street every day on way to train station. There’s always wacky bacca being smoked on that street. It stinks! And the ginnel behind the houses looks like fly tippers have been there, there’s always a sofa or broken furniture dumped there and rubbish& rubble from DIY work from the builders / land lords all piled up. Looks right state and stinks! I feel sorry for the local residents on that street.
