MOTORISTS close to the border between Denton and Hyde have been told to expect delays as the last phase of diverting utilities at a motorway bridge begins.
Then details of how the structure over the M67 will come down will be announced.
National Highways’ £26 million scheme that will see the bridge at St Anne’s Road in Denton replaced has been ongoing since the beginning of last year.
Earlier this month, BT’s Openreach successfully completed diverting telecommunications cabling on to the new bridge beams.
Now the next and final service diversion involves Electricity North West (ENWL) installing temporary power cables.
This will ensure vital services remain on for the community during the replacement scheme.
ENWL’s work started at 9.30am on Thursday, August 29 and is expected to be finished in approximately two weeks.
However, that means the main Hyde Road has been reduced to single lane traffic between Nisa Local in Denton and the M67 junction two exit slip road and will be throughout the work.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “We’ll have teams on-site monitoring traffic flows to ensure signals are working as expected.
“However, delays are likely, especially at peak times.
“We’re advising road users to allow extra time to complete journeys and would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience.
“Once this work is completed, we will finish our preparations ahead of demolishing the current bridge.
“More details on the next phase will be announced in September.”
The slip road at the side of the Lowes Arms could do with closing – its causing a build up of traffic of cars trying to join the queue to Denton. Apart from that I think you are doing a grand job.
