Tameside charity’s Solidarity Sale to support global cause

A LOCAL charity is inviting shoppers and supporters to bag some bargains while raising funds to support vulnerable and marginalised people across the world.

Emmaus Mossley is hosting a Solidarity Sale on Saturday, August 24, to do its bit in the fight against global poverty and social inequality.

The homelessness charity will donate 100 per cent of takings that day to Emmaus International, which will use the money raised to carry out worldwide solidarity programmes and campaigns.

Created in 1971, Emmaus International brings together 450 Emmaus groups in more than 40 countries, united in their mission to support vulnerable and marginalised people.

Each member group of the Emmaus movement holds at least one Solidarity Sale each year, to raise funds to support their collective mission.

Hazel Hodkinson, Retail Manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Solidarity is one of the core values shared by all Emmaus groups.

“By shopping with us on the day of our Solidarity Sale, you will be taking action to help people and communities in desperate need.

“The funds raised on this day will be used on a range of global programmes, such as improving access to basic human rights, such as education, health and water.”

The sale will be from 10am to 4pm at the charity’s Secondhand Superstore on Queen Street in Mossley.

Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home, companionship, tailored support and work opportunities.
