M67 motorway closure in place following spillage

12:03pm: 

POLICE and officers from Highways agency are at the scene of a collision in Hyde. A stretch of the M67 motorway has been closed to traffic with drivers urged to avoid the area. 

The westbound carriageway between junction 4 (Hyde) and junction 3 (Hattersley) A57 is CLOSED due to a large spillage following a collision

A diversion is in place in the area, with the ‘solid triangle’ symbol being used.

A spokesperson for National Highways said:

“The M67 is closed westbound between J4 (Mottram in Longdendale) and J3 (Hyde) due to a substantial spillage following a road traffic collision.

“At around 10:27 North West Motorway Police Group responded to reports a collision on the M67 westbound near Hyde.

“Two vehicles were involved in the collision, one of which had also struck the nearside and central reservation barriers.

“National Highways Traffic Officers arrived at scene to assist the police and have confirmed that no damage has been caused to either barrier.

“There is however a large diesel spill on the carriageway from the collision.

“National Highways service providers have been dispatched to treat the spillage and assess the road surface.”
