Denton woman defies diabetes to lose over two stone

A DENTON woman has proved that diabetes is no barrier to losing weight after shedding over two stone, with the help of Slimming World.

Christine Emmons, who lives in Dane Bank, joined the weight loss giant in November 2023. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes some 39 years ago.

“I knew I needed some encouragement to lose weight,” she said. “I previously tried Slimming World in 2020 and struggled due to the pandemic.

“There’s a blood test I have to have called HBA1c – my first reading was 76, which is really high, and now it has reduced to 47.

“I used to have to take 34 units of background insulin and now that’s reduced to 16 units.”

There have been so many benefits to losing weight for Christine, which have positively impacted her life.

“I sleep better, I have more energy, my self confidence has grown, my wellbeing has improved and I’m three dress sizes smaller.”

Christine has followed a Slimming World healthy eating plan called Food Optimising – which encourages members to fill up on highly-satisfying foods which are naturally lower in energy density (calories per gram) while limiting less-satisfying foods that are highest in fat and sugar.

She has received praise from the Slimming World consultant at her Dane Bank group.

“Christine is really inspirational in our group with lots of supportive ideas and recipes for our other members,” said Sarah Fleming.

Slimming World groups offer members support, commitment and accountability, as well as access to a members-only website and app for on-the-go weight loss support.
