Solar energy firm aims for bright future under new MD

A SOLAR energy company which has just brought its HQ to Tameside has appointed a new Managing Director.

Project Solar claims to be the UK’s biggest solar panel installer and became the main club sponsor for Hyde United FC in 2021 – the same year the firm celebrated its 10th anniversary.

MD Tom Armstrong

Tom Armstrong, who has worked at Project Solar for over a decade, was most recently Group Sales Director.

In his new role, he will also be responsible for the commercial solar and battery division across Project Better Energy, Project Solar’s parent company.

Tom himself lives in an entirely energy independent property, having taken his 150-year-old farmhouse near Hyde to 2050 building standards.

The appointment follows investment into Project Better Energy from private equity firm Freshstream late last year, and is an integral part of its growth strategy as it sets its sights on new targets in both the residential and commercial markets.

Tom said: “I’m really proud to be leading Project Solar on our next chapter as we aim to consolidate our position as the UK’s top solar installer.

“My vision is for every homeowner in the UK to seriously consider solar panels. This means we’re on a mission to ensure that everyone fully understands the finance options available to them, and the financial benefits of installation.

“We can make solar affordable and accessible to everyone and I’m determined to make that a reality. We have some exciting things in the pipeline to support this goal, so watch this space!”
