Celebration to open church’s Community Garden

A FUN afternoon is planned to celebrate the official opening of a local church’s Community Garden.

A small but dedicated band of volunteers have been busy transforming a patch of land around St Gabriel’s Church in Ashton-under-Lyne into a welcoming space for the local community to use and enjoy.

It has been made possible by the support of the St Gabriel’s congregation, local businesses and groups – including most recently Tameside Rotary, who gave a grant to the project through their Community Cash Awards.

On Sunday, July 7, the local community is welcome to visit the garden at the corner of Beaufort Road and Stamford Street to see the hard work for themselves.

From 11.30am to 3pm, there will be lots to keep folk entertained – including the Willow Wood Hospice Choir, Sounds Familiar, Dobcross Youth Band, Baker School of Dance and the church’s Intergenerational Choir and Music Group.

Food and drink will also be available.
