TAMESIDE’S festive lantern parade us moving back to Hyde for this year.
The procession, which kicks off the borough’s Christmas celebrations, was meant to be based in Ashton-under-Lyne permanently.
But work on the town’s Market Square, where it concludes, has forced a rethink and it will again be held in Hyde on Saturday, November 16.
And executive leader, Cllr Gerald Cooney, and his cabinet agreed the switch, ‘to ensure the increasingly popular event could be delivered safely and professionally.’
Figures showed the move to Ashton was a success, as last year’s lantern parade was attended by a record 9,000 audience.
But work to install a canopy over the Market Square has seen Tameside Council switch venues for 2024.

The fact is a lot people people disagree with councillor cooney this parade should be spread across the borough permanently .
