THE number of people accessing free online parenting courses in Tameside has reached a new high.
According to latest figures, the uptake of the courses – designed to improve emotional health and wellbeing in parents, children, teenagers, adults and grandparents – has risen for first-time users in comparison to other local authorities.
There’s also been an increase in men using the content in the borough, to twice that of other local authorities.
The ‘Understanding your…’ courses cover a range of topics such as ‘relationships’, ‘your teenager’s brain’ and ‘your child with additional needs’.
There are 15 courses available featuring antenatal, postnatal, children and young people, teenagers and adults. They can all be viewed in the language of preference for families.
Awareness of the courses has grown through recommendations from Tameside Council, education providers, midwifery and health services, and HomeStart.
Anyone interested can go to inourplace.co.uk and use the access code SUNFLOWER.
A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “Our Parenting team do a fantastic job of ensuring families have access to the resources that will benefit them. Being able to offer helpful courses for free and knowing the difference they are making is an example of this and I’m delighted these are so readily available.”
