Clean-up starts after travellers leave Denton site

A CLEAN-UP operation is underway after travellers left a Denton site they had occupied an hour before a court hearing to have them removed.

At one point, 22 caravans were on the area close to St Thomas More RC College and Circular Road.

The clean-up operation is now underway

Concerns the field was becoming damaged by the constant movement of vehicles, along with several quadbikes being ridden by children, quickly rose, along with complaints about noise nuisance.

The amount of waste and litter that rapidly built up on site was a worry.

But on Tuesday, May 14 at 1pm – 60 minutes before Tameside Council’s application for a court order to move them on was scheduled to be heard – the group dispersed.

Now officers are arranging for the site to be cleaned up.

  1. Whilst the travellers have left lots of rubbish tree cutting, even from the last visit, can the council not remove the rubbish that has been dumped & we as a community have been asking for it to be removed keep asking?? Because council taxpayers are paying for the cleanup again from the traveler
