SOME of the UK’s top street artists will get together as part of a celebration of art, culture and community in Ashton-under-Lyne.
The town will be sprinkled with a burst of colour and creativity on Saturday, May 18, for its first ever Street Art Festival.
From 10.30am to 5pm, the ‘Ashton Paint Jam’ will see the hoardings outside the town hall transformed into a dynamic outdoor art gallery.
Internationally renowned Jay Sharples has curated the convergence of over 20 of the country’s most talented street artists for the event – organised by Art Battle Manchester.
“We are thrilled to bring the Ashton Paint Jam to life and showcase the incredible talent of street artists from the UK,” said Jay.
The day will also feature live music from local DJs, independent food treats and activities for all ages.
Children can undertake supervised spray-painting sessions, while thrilling break-dancing and skateboarding performances will provide entertainment for the whole family.
The event has been fully funded by the Government, through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) for Communities and Place awarded to Tameside Council.
Ashton Waterloo Councillor Vimal Choksi MBE, Executive Member for Towns and Communities, said: “This event has been made possible with the support of UKSPF’s funding, which aims to enhance the cultural vibrancy of our town centre and events like this really showcase Ashton’s creative community and love of creative talent.”
