Tameside receives royal visitor

WORK on the waterways of Tameside has received the royal seal of approval with a visit by Princess Anne.

The sister of King Charles III took a look at the efforts of the East Manchester Community Boat Project at Portland Basin Museum in Ashton-under-Lyne.

The Princess Royal stepped aboard Community Spirit 2, which was renovated after £100,000 was raised – with a diesel engine replaced by an electric motor and runs excursions from the attraction.
