A MAN has been charged with the murder of 51-year-old Michelle Hodgkinson in Droylsden almost a year ago.
Michelle was fatally stabbed on Edge Lane on the afternoon of June 2, 2023, as she went to take her mum shopping and go for a coffee.
Greater Manchester Police say Paul Hughes, 29, has now been charged with murder following a “lengthy investigation”.

A spokesperson added that he has been remanded in a secure mental health hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Hughes will next appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 6.
Police are continuing to investigate Michelle’s murder and anyone with information is asked to come forward by calling 101, quoting log 1353 of 02/06/2023, or by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Detective Inspector Danny Lee said: “We understand this tragedy may have increased the community concerns in relation to knife crime, but we would like to stress this is a very rare type of incident.
“However, at the heart of this incident, a loved one has been torn away and our thoughts remain with Michelle’s family, whom we continue to support with specialist officers.”
In a tribute to Michelle, her family said she was the “most amazing, loving, selfless and funny daughter, mother, mother-in-law, sister, auntie and most recently a nanna.”
