Tameside Council Election Candidates: Hyde Newton

Peter Ball-Foster (Liberal Democrats)

MY NAME is Peter Ball-Foster and I am pleased to represent the Liberal Democrats.

My family and I moved to Newton in 1998 and have been witness to the decline and degeneration of the area.

During this time, the state of our roads and pavements, with countless potholes, has become a disgrace.

Broken glass and litter are all over the place, making it dangerous for our children and pets.

The River Tame, which should be a gem at the heart of Tameside, is the eighth most polluted river in the UK.

It is not just our environment. We desperately need more social housing – with many people here on minimum wage, the so-called affordable housing being offered is out of reach and rents are rocketing up.

Our society is very broken and I am so angry that my family and yours are forced to put up with the status quo.

William Andrew Moss (Conservative)

HELLO, I am William Andrew Moss and I am standing as your Conservative party candidate for Hyde Newton.

I am a retired member of the NHS (North West Ambulance Service) and am a public governor on the council of governors for Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care (NHS Foundation Trust), representing the people of Stalybridge and Hyde.

I attend public meetings for The Partnership Engagement Network (PEN) – set up jointly by Tameside Council and local NHS services, including Tameside Hospital – to allow residents and organisations a real influence and contribution to the design, commissioning and delivery of public services in Tameside.

I have strong connections to Newton having lived here most of my life and try to be involved in the aspects of life that are important to local people.

I am involved with the Hyde Together CIC, which is promoting growth and investment in Hyde and work closely with local businesses to improve our Town Centre.

On Thursday, May 2, I would be delighted to represent you on Tameside Council and finally give the people of Newton a voice that will be listened to, rather than Jonathan Reynolds’ member of staff from Stalybridge.

Hugh Roderick (Labour)

IT IS an honour to be able to stand again to represent Newton.

Over the two years I have been working for residents as a councillor, I have seen the struggles that families are experiencing and the challenges that leave many stuck in disadvantage.

Times are difficult with the Tory government slashing the council’s funding to run services and increased pressures on family finances.

But there is a hopeful story to be told in all the Newton community groups and events that I am proud to support, the work through the Litter Hubs to encourage residents to take pride in their area and the regeneration plans for Hyde that will bring benefit to Newton.

If you re-elect me on May 2, I will continue to work with my ward colleagues, Helen and Peter, to make sure that community groups and all residents get the support they need to succeed and to work towards a more prosperous Hyde.

Audel Shirin (Workers Party of Britain)

I WAS born in Flowery Field and lived in Newton among my family and friends for 36 years.

I work in finance helping residential and commercial clients.

It would be an honour to give back to the community I grew up in, which is why I am pledging to give 20 per cent of my councillor’s allowance to a local charity.

If elected, I will be transparent and advocate for the changes you want by improving our town through community collaboration and truly listening to you the voters rather than ignoring you like Labour, you deserve better.

I am a big believer in proportional representation, you already have two Labour councillors in Hyde Newton, do you need a third?

Labour have become complacent and have taken your vote for granted.

Give yourself an alternative fresh perspective and voice by voting for Audel Shirin on May 2. A new start for Newton.
