Tameside Council Election Candidates: Droylsden East

Laura Boyle (Labour)

I AM delighted and honoured to have been re-selected to represent Droylsden East Ward.

I have been a Councillor for more than five years and want to continue fighting for our town. A  local girl, who went to Fairfield High School and St Stephen’s Primary school, my early education gave me the skills to become a teacher and an environmental scientist.

As a single parent, I have experienced the effects this Tory Government has had on people’s lives – soaring energy costs, food bills and the cost of living crisis.

I am ambitious for our town but we are being held back by a Government putting its own interests first.

It doesn’t care for towns like ours, cutting millions from the council’s budget in the last 10 years, making it increasingly difficult to provide the level of services we all expect.

I will continue working hard for the people of Droylsden and be a voice for all its hardworking residents who are continually targeted by this government.

I will make sure Droylsden gets the services it deserves. I want the very best for our town.

Rowan Fitton (Liberal Democrats)

I AM proud to be standing as your local Liberal Democrat candidate in this year’s election, offering a real alternative for voters in Droylsden East.

Residents are tired of a Labour-run council which takes them for granted and tired of voting for other parties who cannot win.

Droylsden deserves a strong local voice speaking up on the issues that matter.

I want to see more progress on regenerating our local area with priorities set by local residents, not Labour bosses selling off our town to developers.

I also want to see action on protecting our local waterways across Tameside, and on improving our local greenspaces.

Communities across Greater Manchester are turning to the Liberal Democrats to help them fight for a fair deal.

A vote for me and the Liberal Democrats on May 2 is a step towards securing a better

future for Droylsden.

Lorraine Whitehead (Green)

I HAVE lived in Tameside for almost my entire life and am a firm believer in true democracy.

I am standing to give voters in Droylsden East the chance to elect another Green Councillor following our success in Ashton in 2019.

I have challenged the council on issues from developments on community green spaces to the closure of the Active Tameside facilities.

During the pandemic I, along with my husband, ran a Covid-19 emergency support scheme, shopping, picking up prescriptions and running errands for vulnerable and shielding residents.

I organised a voucher scheme, partnering struggling residents with local shops so they had access to vouchers for food and other essentials.

Since gaining our first Green Councillor in Tameside in 2019, our numbers have multiplied across the region, influencing councils and facilitating change.

Greens are winning across Greater Manchester, the North West and nationwide, proving that we are electable, in Tameside and across the country.

If you want Green, vote Green.
