Tameside Council Election Candidates: Ashton Hurst

Hilary Jones (Green)

I AM standing again to give the people of Ashton Hurst the opportunity to vote for a local Green candidate.

I have spent several years establishing our Urban Eco Roots Garden as a haven for wildlife and peaceful retreat for our community.

As a Green Councillor, I would work to progress Tameside’s Climate Change and Environment Strategy.

The council declared a climate emergency more than four years ago but still lacks sufficient defined actions or targets to achieve its targets.

Given the cost-of-living crisis, we need to increase home insulation, to reduce bills, lower CO2 emissions and create jobs in a sustainable ‘green’ industry.

We need safe walking and cycling infrastructure and cheap, reliable public transport. This would reduce car dependency, reducing transport costs for residents as well as reducing both pollution and CO2.

Greens are already winners in Ashton following our success in 2019. We now need more Greens to continue his work challenging Labour on the environment and council tax bills.

Roy Miller (Conservative) did not supply an election profile.

Mohammed Shamsul Karim (Labour)

THIS IS my honour and privilege that I have been selected as your Labour candidate for Ashton Hurst Ward on the forthcoming local elections on May 2, 2024.

I have been living in this ward with my family for more than 20 years. I have always been with my community.

On May 3, 2023, you elected me as your local councillor. Since then, I have been doing my best for the ward with my colleague, Cllr Mike Glover.

I want to stand again by residents of my home ward.

I will be asking for your support again for the Ashton Hurst Labour Team. Please could I ask your vote for Labour on May 2.

This year, you are voting for local councillor for your ward and Mayor for Greater Manchester.

Please do not forget to take any form of ID with you to the polling station on election day.

Thank you.
