Dukinfield woman has Tameside children hunting – for books!

A DUKINFIELD woman is helping children in Tameside book in to expand their reading range by setting up a borough-wide hunt.

Alicia Crossland, who owns online business Alicia’slittlebookshop and is in an independent partnership with Usborne Books, has organised the search to encourage reading.

She raised £560 from local people and businesses, which means that the hunt consists of 560 books for children to find.

And they will be placed at locations all over the borough over the course of the Easter holidays.

So, if you see a child searching for something, it may be for a book.

Alicia, who lives on Inverness Road, said: “I’ve a Facebook group called ‘aliciaslittlebookhunt’ connected to my business page ‘Alicia’slittlebookshop.’

“That contains photo clues of where the books have been hidden for children to find.

“The idea is they will read them and then choose to keep them or re-hide them for another child to find.

“It’s completely free to join the hunt.

“I contacted local businesses to organise a book hunt for the children of Tameside to take part in over the Easter holidays, giving the children a fun activity to take part in and encourage them to keep reading during their time away from education.

“And I’ve donated my money to print the advertisements for the books and get plastic bags to keep them dry from the weather.

“I’ll also be donating my time to hide them.”

Businesses that have helped Alicia fund buying the books will have their names advertised in the covers of the titles.

But the ongoing search is capturing the hearts and attention of Tameside’s book-loving children.
