A WOMAN from Hyde has been slapped with a fine for dumping household waste.
Dawn Stevenson, of Market Street, was ordered to pay a £50 fine and £20 victim surcharge by Tameside magistrates last Thursday (February 8).
She had pleaded guilty to a householder duty of care offence, telling the court that she did not have a bin but was permitted to use the bin of a takeaway. That was locked so she used another one and that person must have deposited the rubbish, she argued.

The court heard that a Tameside Council officer found a bag of household waste and a number of other items, including cushions, on Reynold Street on March 15, 2023, as part of a waste enforcement day of action in Hyde town centre.
The dumped waste was traced to Ms Stevenson, who ignored all correspondence and several reminders to pay the Fixed Penalty Notice she was issued for the littering offence.
The council held another ‘Our Streets’ day of action in Hyde recently, which saw councillors get involved in clearing rubbish and led to 18 cases of fly-tipping being investigated.

Tameside Council’s Assistant Executive Member responsible for enforcement believes the targeted enforcement days are making a difference and again warned residents not to dump waste in streets.
Councillor Vincent Ricci said: “I know how much litter and fly-tipping concerns local residents and it’s good to see yet another example of the positive enforcement results we are getting from the Our Streets days of action, which highlight work that takes place every day to tackle waste issues.
“All residents have a duty of care to ensure their household waste is disposed of legally and responsibly and there is no excuse for waste being dumped in the street. We will always take enforcement action where we have the evidence to do so.”
