TAMESIDE’S first cultural fashion show, organised by the borough’s Civic Mayor, has been regarded as a ‘huge success’.
People from different backgrounds gathered at Dukinfield Town Hall to celebrate diversity and raise more than £800 for Councillor Tafheen Sharif’s charity appeal fund.
The Jubilee Hall at the King Street venue was packed on Friday, February 2, as several retailers donated fashions and audiences enjoyed a range of dishes reflecting the evening’s multi-cultural theme.
“The fashion show was hugely successful and reflected Tameside’s diverse communities,” said Cllr Sharif, who is the first Muslim and ethnic minority person to fulfil the Civic Mayor role in the borough.
“We sent a message of solidarity, spreading love and understanding through each other’s cultures. Equality and inclusivity are values close to my heart – values which motivated me to organise the event.
“I believe it’s really important that we highlight the positives of each one of our communities to create understanding among all.
“Thank you to Resham (Ashton), LA Fashion, Hope Couture, Poppet’s Place and Style Statement for showcasing their amazing models, outfits and jewellery. Thank you to each and every one of the hard-working volunteers who helped me to put on such a fantastic show.”
The Civic Mayor’s charity appeal fund comprises Home-Start (HOST), which offers expert support to families with young children going through difficult times; West African Development, which helps ethnic minority communities in Tameside; and Pauline Town’s We Shall Overcome, which provides assistance for the homeless.
