A NEW group is being launched in Ashton-under-Lyne to give young children their first steps into Scouting.
An open night was held at the Ashton Central Mosque by North Tameside Scouts, which comprises eight groups across Ashton and Droylsden.
Around 20 young people attended with their parents, who were keen to see how they could help the new group.
The turnout was welcomed by the new group Scout Leader Amma Tahir and Chairman Adam Ahmed, who gave a talk about Scouting and how parents can help by being leaders or supporters.
The children took part in various activities to test their skills, including separating blocks without undoing the knots, shooting with sponge bullets at piles of plastic cups, and a colouring competition.
The Scout group, which will be known as 14th Ashton, will begin with Beavers and Cubs on February 7 from 6pm to 7.15pm at the Ashton Central Mosque on Hillgate Street.
Alan Fish from North Tameside Scouts and the Civic Mayor of Tameside Councillor Tafheen Sharif will be in attendance to answer any questions about volunteering to help young Scouts.
Anyone who would like to help out in Scouting or would like to know their nearest Scout group can contact Alan by emailing alan.fish@ntscouts.org.uk or call 07931 765 120.
