Six flats planned for former Hyde gym

A FORMER Hyde gym could be converted into six flats if planning permission is granted.

Tameside Council has received an application to change what was Powerhouse Health and Fitness, on Borough Arcade, into the properties.

Five of them would have one bedroom with the other having two in the town centre location, which looks over Market Street.

Wirral-based Knightsbridge Developments Ltd appears to be behind the scheme on the second floor of the existing building.

The ground floor has a retail unit and the first is occupied by a dental practice, operating as mydentist.

And it would see an empty unit, which already had permission for three two bedroomed units granted in 2020, put to use.

The holding company behind Powerhouse was, according to Companies House, dissolved in June 2018 and the site is described as vacant.

Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel (Planning) committee will decide whether to grant or refuse planning permission.
