Tameside mum and daughter transform their lives through Slimming World

A MUM and daughter from Tameside have totally transformed their lifestyles after teaming up to lose five-and-a-half stone between them.

Kirsty Mills wanted to shed some pounds after becoming a mum and decided to attend Slimming World. Her mum Janet agreed to join with her so she had some moral support.

Kirsty feared that her work clothes would no longer fit when her maternity leave came to an
end.

“I worried that I had nothing to wear and that I’d look fat,” she said. “I never wanted to
socialise and I also suffered with lower back pain.”

They both attended the Thursday group at Hurst Nook United Reformed Church in Ashton-under-Lyne and channelled their inner determination.

“Staying to group is a must,” Kirsty said. “On days where I’m tired and just want to climb into my pyjamas, I really have to push myself.

“Even before the group starts, you’ll find me sitting chatting away to my newfound Slimming World friends. I feel empowered and ready to take on another week.

“I have their back and I know they have mine too. There are never any judgments – just
support and encouragement.”

Kirsty admitted half-term holidays are the biggest challenges because of unstructured days and family days out but said she can now fit into size 12/14 clothes and wear a swimming costume.

“For the first time in my life, I don’t feel self-conscious,” she added. “I feel amazing, I felt
amazing on my wedding day. I never thought I’d be able to lose almost three stone.”

Janet had never joined anything like Slimming World before but has lost two-and-a-half
stone and been at her target weight for 18 months now.

“I am not as out of breath and don’t have problems with my knees anymore,” she admitted.

“I couldn’t even pick my grandson up from his cot, my pain was that bad in my back and
knees.

“I can fit in all of my clothes comfortably, I’ve dropped three dress sizes. I haven’t been this
weight since I got married 36 years ago!”

Slimming World consultant Terri praised Kirsty and Janet for their commitment.

“They are in group every week no matter what’s going on,” she explained. “Even the week Kirsty was getting married, she was in group the week before and week after.

“They love the time together and they are aware of the importance of attending each and every week and don’t like to miss out.”

Slimming World allows people to live the life they want, eat the food they want and still lose weight.

Support will be given so you can take control, change your mindset, supercharge your
weight loss in group, build active habits at your own pace and fit all this around your lifestyle.

Slimming World groups offer members support, commitment and accountability, as well as access to a members-only website and app for on-the-go weight loss support.

Terri has been a Slimming World consultant for six years after losing seven stone and
reaching her target within 20 months.

“Slimming World isn’t about being on a diet,” she said. “It’s about making changes for a
healthier, happier lifestyle without ever going hungry or missing out. In group, you’ll find lots of help, support and inspiration from your new Slimming World family.”

Terri initially worked full-time alongside running a group but, after 18 months, she decided to give up her employment and became a full-time self-employed Slimming World consultant.

She runs three groups in Ashton-under-Lyne on Thursday evenings, Friday mornings and
Saturday mornings.

“Running groups doesn’t feel like work, I love helping and supporting members to achieve
their targets,” Terri added.

“It’s great when I see members making changes to their life in many ways, such as diabetic medications reduced or I’ve had a member conceive after years of trying for a baby.”
