‘Paw-fect’ start to the new year for former stray dog

THE new year got off to the best possible start for one dog in the care of a rehoming centre in Denton.

No sooner had the doors opened at Dogs Trust Manchester to welcome in 2024 than four-year-old Spaniel Crossbreed, Fran, was wagging her tail.

That’s because her new owners Georgia Wood and Blane Keating had arrived to take her home.

Carol Margieson, Assistant Manager at the rehoming centre on Parkway, certainly has a
spring in her step.

“Seeing Fran head home with Georgia and Blane is just the best start possible to the New Year,” she said.

“She is a lovely girl but having been found as a stray, she hasn’t had the easiest time.

“Luckily, she’s obviously resilient as she is full of beans and always happy. The fact that she
has found a loving new home so soon into the new year is fantastic.”

Adopting Fran has been a great way to start 2024 for Blane.

“We knew we wanted a dog and decided we’d like to adopt and spotted Fran on the Dogs Trust website,” he said.

“We met her just before Christmas and couldn’t wait to bring her home. She loves cuddles and seems quite relaxed. She definitely likes company so wherever we are in the house, she is with us, which is fine with us.

“If anyone thinks this year is the right time for them to welcome a dog into their life, we
encourage them to adopt so they can give dogs like Fran a second chance.”

Dogs Trust Manchester will celebrate its 10th anniversary in October this year. Since
opening, they have waved a fond farewell to thousands of dogs.

Last year, they found forever families for more than 500 four-legged friends of all ages,
shapes and sizes.
